1940 was the first year for the automatic transmission for GM and this particular car was one of the very first GM cars with an Automatic Transmission!!! This car was owned by GM from 1940 - 2009!
The top-of-the-line for Oldsmobile in 1940 when they introduced the revolutionary Hydra-Matic drive, the first fully automatic transmission that set the industry standard for all future automatic transmissions. The Series 90 Custom Cruiser 4 door touring sedan was top-of-the-line for Oldsmobile in 1940. Although it carried a hefty price tag, it was the second best selling Oldsmobile for 1940, with 33,350 built. 1940 also saw Oldsmobile build its 1 millionth vehicle and introduce the revolutionary Hydra-Matic drive, the first fully automatic transmission that set the industry standard for all future automatic transmissions. Hydra-Matic drive, with modifications, had continued usage through 1964 in various GM models.
