1956 CADILLAC SERIES 62 CONVERTIBLE

1956 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible
Chassis No. 5662117073
Cadillac produced its millionth automobile in 1956, selling a record 154,577 units and underlining the historic success and significance of the marque in the American luxury car market. Refinements in the engine and driveline combined with carefully considered styling changes insured both the 1956 Cadillac’s contemporary popularity and its continuing value as a collector classic. For the first time since its introduction the engine displacement was increased, from 331 to 365 cubic inches. A larger bore, better air/fuel flow and larger exhaust valves contributed to a new rating of 285 HP, and the new Jet Away hydramatic transmission eliminated the abrupt shifting of earlier models. Styling changes were subtle enough to maintain continuity, but the new Caddy was still lower and smoother in overall appearance. Optional gold-plated grille and scripting were fashionable items thanks to the popularity of the movie, “The Solid Gold Cadillac” starring Judy Holiday and Paul Douglas. The interior was redesigned to reflect changing customer preferences, including a relocated glove box, additional ashtrays and lighters, and changes to instrumentation. Originally an Arizona car, this 1956 Series 62 convertible has been frame-off restored to fabulous condition. The deep Red finish is decorated with gold plated scripting and badging, and includes the optional gold-plated front grille. The car is powered by the improved 365 V-8 mated to the Jet Away hydramatic and rolls on wide-Whitewalls mounted on chromed Cadillac wire wheels. First impressions only get better in the opulent White interior, which features stitched leather seating and padding, including the Red-accented padding on the door panels and dash. The sparkling White convertible top is brand new and literally caps off the car’s appearance in beautiful fashion. Collectors cannot help but be impressed by the fabulous condition of this most desirable of Fifties-era Cadillacs.
