1964 JAGUAR E-TYPE 3.8 LITRE ROADSTER

1964 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Litre Roadster
ID# 861742
Complete (Nut & Bolt) restoration which was performed in1992 by one of the top Jaguar specialist in the U.K. The new E-Type was an even greater technical breakthrough than the XK. Dispensing entirely with the prewar concept of a separate body bolted to a rolling chassis, the E-Type broke new ground with a monocoque body tub attached to a tubular framework. The engine was bolted into this framework and was enclosed by a unique, hinged, unitized front clip (bonnet and wings). This innovative design was inherited directly from the C-Type and D-Type Le Mans racers, which when opened upwards, provided uncompromised access to everything forward of the firewall, including the entire front suspension. This feature greatly facilitated maintenance and mechanical repairs. The E-Type’s performance was as breathtaking as its looks; it was the first standard production vehicle capable of over 150mph. With a list price less than half that of the few competitors with performance even remotely approaching the E-Type’s, William Lyons must have known that he had created what would become one of the most revered cars of all time. This is a very usable classic that offers its next owner countless hours of thrilling top down motoring.
